Seoul, Jongno-gu, beside Changdeokgung. A contemporary-art museum (opened 2014) inside the old SPACE Group building, Kim Swoo-geun’s dark-brick warren of 1971/77, ivy on the outside and a maze of half-levels and narrow stairs within. Holds collector Ci Kim’s collection: the YBAs, Chinese and Korean contemporary, video. The building is not a white cube; the brick vaults and tight rooms are part of how the work lands.

Grows from

My own growth, not where Namjoon pointed. One stop on a day of galleries in the Bukchon/Samcheong cluster.

The door - why it matters

(fill in: the building itself, Kim Swoo-geun’s brick maze, what it does to the work shown inside.)
