American, born in Cuba, 1957-1996. Conceptual artist working in stacks of printed paper, strings of lightbulbs, and candy spills that viewers take and deplete. The work measures love against its own running-down, much of it shadowed by the AIDS crisis that took his partner and then him.

Provenance

@rkive IG, “Collection Pinault,” 27 Jun 2022 - “Match of 2022 goes to Roni & Torres ..! Such a stunning, inspirational view.”

Felix Gonzalez-Torres

RM’s own post, from the Felix Gonzalez-Torres – Roni Horn show at the Bourse de Commerce (Pinault Collection, Paris). The finger landed on the artist, in the room - primary source, not a fan inference, not the venue alone. He named Torres.

In the room (what he actually saw): the strand of lights, “Untitled” (For Stockholm), and the bead curtain, “Untitled” (Blood). Not Perfect Lovers - the clocks were never in this show (see the branch).

Primary source: Namjoon’s @rkive IG post; documented by fan archives Namjoon’s Library.

Why it matters - the door

Found him through RM’s “Match of 2022”: light strung across a white room, two artists held in one breath. The register he lands on for me is the elegiac one: the immaterial made physical, love measured against its own running-down.
