Twenty-one years of Tehching Hsieh’s life spent as art: five One Year Performances (a cage, a time clock, the street, a rope, no art) and then thirteen years of making art without showing it. Dia’s retrospective at Dia Beacon gathers the statements, photographs, maps, tapes and the cage itself. Opened 4 October 2025, on view for two years. Show page.
Grows from
My own growth, not where Namjoon pointed. Grows from Dia Beacon. Artist: Tehching Hsieh.
Why it matters
Hsieh: stunned and in awe someone could do this, immediately thought how I couldn’t, and that it wasn’t impossible, but most people don’t have the discipline.
