Kishio Suga (Dia Beacon)

Stone, wire, wax, concrete, straw rope: Kishio Suga sets ordinary materials into arrangements that hold each other up and look one nudge from falling apart. Dia’s long-term presentation at Dia Beacon gathers his sculptural installations from 1969 to the 1990s, many never shown in the United States before. On view from 19 July 2025. Show page. The first rooms I walked into at Dia Beacon, and I lingered there a long time.

Grows from

My own growth, not where Namjoon pointed. Grows from Dia Beacon and runs into Mono-ha, next to Lee Ufan in the rooms beside it. Artist: Kishio Suga.

Why it matters

Suga’s room: the morning light shining through the windows, works set up so it captured the moment in time where it could change (fall off) the next second.

Works encountered

My photographs from the rooms. Works with their own notes: Placement of Condition, Diagonal Phase, Parallel Strata.
