Five hundred polished brass rods, two meters each, laid in five rows of a hundred across a SoHo gallery floor, the gaps between them widening five millimeters at a time from front to back. End to end they would measure one kilometer. Walter De Maria, 1979, at 393 West Broadway; commissioned and kept by Dia.

It’s so surreal seeing this in the middle of soho, like an oasis that’s serene with eerie art. The space and duplicates made me feel expanded from within.
