Kim Eull: EULLDALISM / Drawing is Hammering (OCI Museum)

Kim Eull’s solo survey at OCI Museum, Seoul, 7 April to 4 June 2022. Around 700 works filling all three floors: salon-hung drawings, tables massed with hundreds of small painted figures, and a full reconstruction of his studio (the “Twilight Zone Studio”). The Korean title 《김을파손죄》 puns on 기물파손죄 (property-damage crime), the hammer as the show’s icon, drawing as breaking the frame. I walked into it on a 2022 day of Seoul galleries.

Works encountered

My photographs from the rooms. I shot no wall labels, so this stays a walk-through, not a set of titled works. The two water-drop paintings that open the set, a blue gridded field and a raw tan board, are Kim Eull quoting Kim Tschang-yeul; documented on the artist’s own site, so the attribution is his, not the water drop painter’s.
