American, born 1944 in Berkeley. Land art at the scale of the desert: Double Negative (1969–70) cut into a Nevada mesa, City (1970–2022) built over fifty years in the Nevada desert, Levitated Mass (2012) at LACMA. His negative sculptures make the absence the work.
